The 59 year-old Brazilian trainer has taken charge of the African side, in a bid to end a four- year spell without a trophyJorvan Vieira has been announced as the new coach of Egyptian side Zamalek, after flying into Cairo to seal the deal on Friday night.
The former Iraq coach will reportedly sign a one-year contract with club president Mamdouh Abbas, earning a salary of €24,400 ($30,000) each month.
He will choose his assistants, with Ismail Youssef remaining as assistant coach, while Osama Nabieh and Ayman Taher will work with the club’s goalkeepers.
The Brazilian coach, who left his role at Emirati side Al Sharjah earlier in 2012, is burdened with the task of trying to win Zamalek’s first trophy since 2008.
Fans will be hoping he can turn the club’s fortunes around like he did with Iraq in 2007, when he guided them to a surprise Asian Cup success.
Hassan Shehata resigned as Zamalek coach in July after a 2012 Caf Champions League 1-0 defeat to fierce rivals Al-Ahly, which caused a rift among the squad.
