Dubai: Baniyas coach Jorvan Vieira has insisted David Trezeguet won’t receive any special treatment at the club, where fellow foreigners Andre Senghor and Fawzi Basheer have recently been reprimanded for poor punctuality.
Basheer was left out of last Thursday’s 4-1 Etisalat Cup defeat to Shabab Al Arabi because he arrived late from national duty with Oman — it comes just weeks after Andre Senghor was disciplined for arriving back late from his vacation.
Asked if the same rules applied to the former World Cup and European Championship winning Frenchman, taskmaster Vieira was adamant: “We’re not here to put people on different levels, there is no up and down, top or bottom. Maybe the way they play is different, some are good, some medium, others have just started and can progress. But no one is top to receive special treatment at Baniyas while I’m here — after I leave I don’t know.”
“Trezeguet is not here to spend his holidays, he’s here to work and put himself within the system of the club. He’s a professional player and is the first to arrive at training and the last to leave. He’s not done anything wrong yet, but if he should he’ll be disciplined like everyone else. Do you think if I bring Messi here I would not punish him because he’s Messi?”
Vieira added: “Baniyas is not soft on anyone. When we need to kiss them we will kiss them ten times, but when it comes to kicking we will kick. We are trying to change mentalities to transform Baniyas into a real big club but this takes time.”
Speaking of sidelined Basheer, Vieira said: “He stayed in Oman, he didn’t come two days after the Thailand game as planned he arrived the night before the game at eight o’clock. How can you put him out to play? With me we have guidelines and discipline. I’ll put an 18-year-old in instead, Fawzi is a good player and as a captain he could have helped the team, but he has to be a real professional.”
Asked about Trezeguet’s contribution in the 4-1 loss to Shabab, Vieira said: “Trezeguet is not here to save any country from the war. Trezeguet is just one warrior in my team. He’s just arrived, he’s not 100 per cent fit. He tried to do his best, but if midfield don’t go near the strikers to give them the food they need to eat how can they score?”
